November 2022 Texas Standard Possession Order

| Chris Schmiedeke |

Hello, everyone. Welcome to the November 2022 review of the Texas Standard Possession Order. Obviously, we have Thanksgiving this month, so let’s see what it looks like for the custodial and non-custodial parent this month.

You are looking at the November 2022 calendar. As always, custodial parent, you are in blue. Non-custodial parent, you are in yellow. We will begin with the Thursday periods of possession this month. Non-custodial – you’ll have Thursday, November 3rd, November 10th, November 17th of this month. You will not have November 24th of this month because that is Thanksgiving. And since it is an even year, it will be the custodial parent’s Thanksgiving. In addition, non-custodial for your weekend period of possession the 1st Friday of the month, we know it everything is measured by the Fridays, is November 4th. So you would have possession on Friday, November 4th and ending on Sunday, November 6th, or perhaps return to school, if that’s what your provisions for the transfer show.

Unfortunately, the 3rd Friday of the month will typically begin the Thanksgiving holidays. So you will not have a 3rd Friday of the month this month, non-custodial parent unless you have an unusual Thanksgiving schedule that does not have them out on the 21st and 22nd.

So let’s talk about Thanksgiving. So as always, this is based upon the school district that my child is in. It’s impossible for me to know every school district’s calendar. If Thanksgiving for your child does not begin until Wednesday, November 23rd, meaning that November 21st and 22nd they are in school, then this weekend is the 3rd Friday of the month and it will belong to the non-custodial parent. So the 18th, 19th and 20th would belong to the non-custodial parent if your kids are in school on the 21st or the 22nd.

However, if you are like most schools, what they have done these days is they have made November 21st and November 22nd teacher in service days, and the actual Thanksgiving holiday begins on the 23rd. If that is the case, then those are now included in the Thanksgiving visit. So it will look just like this calendar looks, which is that the custodial parent would pick up when the kids are out of school on the 18th to begin the Thanksgiving visitation and would not be done with them until, well, at the end of the Thanksgiving holiday would be the 27th. But obviously, it’s going to extend until the Thursday for the non-custodial parent.

So there you go. That is November 2022 under the Texas Standard Possession Order. It doesn’t look great for the non-custodial parent, but I have a feeling that that will be made up next month since it will be the non-custodial parent’s Christmas.
