August 2023 Texas Standard Possession Order

| Chris Schmiedeke |

INTRO

It’s hard to believe summer is almost over. Time to get back to school, maybe a little back-to-school shopping. Thursdays are going to start kicking back in here shortly. We’re going to have our normal weekend periods of possession and everything is going to return to the normal standard possession order. Let’s just see what August holds for us. As normal, non-custodial parent you are in yellow, custodial parent you are in blue.

WEEKENDS

We’ll start with the weekends this month. Non-custodial parent you will have the first Friday of the month which is the 4th and the third Friday of the month which is the 18th. Custodial parent you will have the second and fourth weekends of the month or second and fourth Fridays. More specifically, the 11th and the 25th of the month.

THURSDAYS

Thursday periods of possession are going to begin this month. We know that is the case because Thursdays are during the regular school term and school will start in August. I have put the beginning school date as August 14th in my calendar because that is the start date of the school district in which I am in. Your school district may vary but if your school starts any time before the 14th or it starts on the 15th or the 16th then you would begin your Thursday periods of possession, non-custodial parent, on the 17th of the month and then you would get the 24th and the 31st of the month as your Thursday periods of possession.

If your child is not old enough to be in school then you are simply going to use the school district in which you reside. Look at the calendar for the school district in which you reside to see when school starts.

CLOSING

Not a difficult month this month. The only real hiccup is the first day of school. I don’t know when that would be for you. Just plug that into the calendar. The first Thursday after that is going to be the first Thursday period of possession for the upcoming school year. Other than that, I will talk to you in September. I hope you have a great rest of the summer.
